【摘要】:Thistestmethodcanserveasausefultoolfordurabilityassessmentandservicelifeforecasting.5.1.1Thistestmethodcanbeusedtomeasuretheeffectsofheatandmoistureandtheeffectoftheirinteractiononadhesivesandbondedjoints.Knowledgeoftheseeffectsisusefultoanadhesiveformulatorormanufacturer.Moistheatagingisparticularlyusefulfordeterminingtheeffectsofacidicadhesivesystemsonthehydrolysisofwoodadherends.5.1.2Thistestmethodprovidesameansofcomparingtherateofdegradationofanunknownadhesive-adherendcombinationtotherateofdegradationofaknowncombinationinthermalorhydrolyticagingenvironments.Suchacomparisoncanbeusefultoadhesivemanufacturersforintroducinganewproducttothemarketandforhelpingdesignersselectingadhesives.5.1.3Thistestmethoddoesnotduplicateanynaturalserviceenvironment,butitdoesprovideameansofestimatingtheservicelifeofjointsinsimilarenvironments.Service-lifeestimatesareusefultodesignersofbondedstructuresorstructuresusingbondedproducts.Service-lifeestimatesrelyontheassumptionthatthechemicaldegradationmechanismisthesameattheelevatedagingtemperaturesasattheservicetemperature.However,thismaynotbetrueineverycase.Thispossibility,togetherwiththevariabilityinspecimenpreparation,intheagingexposures,andinthestrengthmeasurements,requirethatcautionbeusedinacceptingtheestimateofservicelife.1.1Thepurposeofthistestmethodistoestimatetheresistanceofadhesive-bondedjointstothermalandhydrolyticdegradation.1.2Thistestmethodisprimarilyforwood-to-woodjointsbutmaybeappliedtojointsofwoodtoothermaterials.1.3Theeffectsofchemicalssuchasfireretardants,preservatives,andextractivesinthewooduponjointdegradationresistancecanbeestimated.1.4Thistestmethoddoesnotaccountfortheeffectsofstress,theotherprincipaldegradingfactor,nordoesitaccountforcyclicorvariabletemperatureormoisturelevels.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
