【摘要】:Themeasurementofapparentattenuationinmaterialsisusefulinapplicationssuchasthecomparisonofheattreatmentsofdifferentlotsofmaterialortheassessmentofthedegradationofmaterialsduetoenvironment.Severaldifferentmodesofwavevibrationcanbepropagatedinsolids.Thispracticeisconcernedwiththeattenuationassociatedwithlongitudinalwavesintroducedintothespecimenbytheimmersionmethod.Thispracticeallowsforthecomparisonoftheapparentattenuationsofgeometricallysimilarspecimens.Forthedeterminationofapparentattenuation,theproceduresdescribedhereinarevalidonlyformeasurementsinthefarfieldoftheultrasonicbeam.1.1Thispracticedescribesaprocedureformeasuringtheapparentattenuationofultrasoundinmaterialsorcomponentswithflat,parallelsurfacesusingconventionalpulse-echoultrasonicflawdetectionequipmentinwhichreflectedindicationsaredisplayedinanA-scanpresentation.1.2Themeasurementprocedureisreadilyadaptableforthedeterminationofrelativeattenuationbetweenmaterials.Forabsolute(true)attenuationmeasurements,indicativeoftheintrinsicnatureofthematerial,itisnecessarytocorrectforspecimengeometry,soundbeamdivergence,instrumentation,andproceduraleffects.Theseresultscanbeobtainedwithmorespecializedultrasonicequipmentandtechniques.1.3ThevaluesstatedineitherSIunitsorinch-poundunitsaretoberegardedseparatelyasstandard.Thevaluesstatedineachsystemmaynotbeexactequivalents;therefore,eachsystemshallbeusedindependentlyoftheother.Combiningvaluesfromthetwosystemsmayresultinnon-conformancewiththestandard.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
