【摘要】:AsignificantfeatureofthispracticeistheabilitytoobtainasemblanceofcoatingrheologyoverabroadrangeofshearrateswiththesamebenchviscometersandtestprotocolthatpaintformulatorsandpaintQCanalystsroutinelyuse.Byusingthisprocedure,anapproximationoftheshearrheologyofacoatingispossiblewithoutusingarheometer,andperformancepredictionscanbemadebasedonthosemeasurements.Low-ShearViscosity(LSV)8212;Thedeterminationoflow-shearviscosityinthispracticecanbeusedtopredicttherelativex201C;in-canx201D;performanceofcoatingsfortheirabilitytosuspendpigmentorpreventsyneresis,orboth.TheLSVcanalsopredictrelativeperformanceforlevelingandsagresistanceafterapplicationbyroll,brushorspray.Fig.1showsthepredictivelow-shearviscosityrelationshipsforseveralcoatingsproperties.5.3Mid-ShearViscosity(MSV)8212;ThedeterminationofMSV(coatingconsistency)inthispracticeisoftenthefirstviscosityobtained.Thisviscosityreflectsthecoatingsresistancetoflowonmixing,pouring,pumping,orhandstirring.Architecturalcoatingsnearlyalwayshaveatargetspecificationformid-shearviscosity,whichisusuallyobtainedbyadjustingthelevelofthickenerinthecoating.Consequently,mid-shearviscosityisideallyaconstantforagivenseriesofcoatingsbeingtestedtoprovidemeaningfulcomparisonsoflow-shearandhigh-shearviscosity.WithviscositiesatthesameKUvalue,MSVcanalsobeusedtoobtaintherelativeMid-ShearThickenerEfficiency(MSTE)ofdifferentthickenersinthesamecoatingexpressedaslbthickener/100galwetcoatingorgthickener/Lwetcoating.5.4High-ShearViscosity(HSV)8212;High-shearviscosityinthispracticeisameasureofthecoatingsresistancetoflowonapplicationbybrushorroller,whichisoftenreferredtoasbrush-dragorrollingresistancerespectively.Thisviscosityrelatestothecoatingsabilitytoprovideone-coathiding,itseaseofapplication(brushingorrollingresistance),anditsspreadrate.Fig.2showshigh-shearviscosityrelationshippredictionsforrelativecoatingperformance.FIG.1LowShearViscosity(LSV)FIG.2HighShearViscosity(HSV)1.1Thispracticecoversapopularindustryprotocolfortherheologicalcharacterizationofwaterbornearchitecturalcoatingsusingthreecommonlyusedrotationalbenchviscometers.Eachviscometeroperatesinadifferentshearrateregimefordeterminationofcoatingviscosityatlowshearrate,midshearrate,andathighshearraterespectivelyasdefinedherein.Generalguidelinesareprovidedforpredictingsomecoatingperformancepropertiesfromtheviscositymeasurementsmade.Withappropriatecorrelationsandsubsequentmodificationoftheperformanceguidelines,thispracticehaspotentialforcharacterizationofothertypesofaqueousandnon-aqueouscoatings.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
